Volkswagen Polo Overview

Volkswagen, the Wolfsburg based German auto-giant, has rolled out the refurbished Polo with quite a few substantial changes both inside and outside from its plant in Pune. The Polo has always been regarded as a smartly styled vehicle, owing to its European looks and solid build quality. The new Polo is offered in six different trim lines which included the famous Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trims. The top of the line Gold GTI trim gets a differently styled bumpers, red inserts inside the headlamps and 17-inch alloy wheels and also a rear spoiler just positioned above the tailgate. The layout of the multi-information instrument though is not comprehensive like rival Baleno but not complex either. It gives essential information including average speed, average fuel consumption and distance to empty readout along with service reminder. Other vital features in the car include auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, one-touch up/down windows, rear wiper/washer, ambient lighting with theatre effect, driver side dead pedal and sunglass holder in the glovebox which can be cooled through air cons inside. This 3-cylinder Inline, 1198 cc, mill develops a top power of 73.7 bhp at 5400 rpm and a peak torque of 110Nm at 3750 rpm. On the other hand, the diesel variants are now powered by an all-new 1.5-litre TDi engine instead of the old 1.2-litre motor. This means Polo fans can now drive a much powerful hatchback as it delivers a maximum power output of 88.5 bhp at 4200 rpm and a peak torque of 230Nm at 2500-3500 rpm. Sadly, there are no automatic variants on offer in each of the fuel trims and like its petrol avatar, the Polo sticks to its conventional 5-speed manual transmission in the diesel version.

In the Indian car buying market, mileage is sometimes the single most important factor influencing decisions. Fortuitously, Volkswagen has fared decently in this compartment, at least with Polo. The Volkswagen Polo returns a mileage of 16.47kmpl and 20.14kmpl with petrol and diesel variants, respectively.
