With mild cosmetic changes, the new Alto K10 shares great resemblance with its siblings – Maruti Alto and Maruti Zen. With a total dimension of 3620 mm (length) x 1495 mm (width) x 1460 mm (height), the car looks very compact yet very spacious from the inside. The wheelbase is 2360 mm. The new headlights,body-coloured bumper, extended snout and stylish front fog lamps enhance the front fascia of car. Now, the badge is significantly highlighted on its front side. The wheels of its top-end variant get full covers, whereas the K10 LXi comes with only a centre cap. Its 13-inch tubeless tryes contribute to its stability and ride quality. The interior of the Maruti Alto K10 is totally fresh when compared to its 800cc sibling. The console and the dash has a black and beige tone with the instrument cluster having features like the USB option and aux input and a mp3 player. The buttons are big and clear and hence easy and convenient to use. This new centre console is a welcome after the old Alto 800 styling, which does look outdated.
The Maruti Alto K10 gets new rich beige fabric seats to add a pinch of richness in the cabin. The cabin space is sufficient and feels airy. The front row seats are comfortable for even long drives. In the second row there is sufficient kneeroom even for tall people and there is enough head room as well, but the thigh support could have been better.

Is it fast? Yes. Does it put a wide grin on your face when you floor it? Maybe. That is all I can say to try and describe the performance on the K10. The engine is a K10B unit borrowed from the WagonR. A 1 litre, 3 cylinder unit – it generates 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque. No, it doesn’t really sound like a lot – but that is until you factor in the weight of the car. The car doesn’t really weigh a lot, giving it a power-to-weight ratio that matches most B segment hatches. That 90Nm of torque is available at 3500rpm and the peak power is developed only at the redline i.e 6000rpm. What this means is you really have to have a leadfoot to make the K10 run fast. Now, this engine and gearbox combo is available on the bigger Celerio as well. But I’ll go out on a limb and say the gearbox is slightly better tuned on the Alto compared to the Celerio. As with all AMTs, the shifts are jerky – both up and down the gears. The gearbox is slightly hesitant to downshift at times as well, holding on to that higher gear, inadvertently lugging the car in the process. Thankfully, it does snap into its senses in a bit and downshifts. You can always avoid all of this hassle and shift on your own by slotting the gear lever into M. You now pull the lever back to upshift and push the lever forward to downshift. This is the exact opposite of what you might be used to, say, with a DSG box – but you’d adapt to it pretty easily. Even in manual, the vehicle will automatically downshift if it senses it is in too high a gear for the revvs or the speed. But it does let you take the revv needle all the way upto the redline.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Driving
The handling and ride quality of the Alto K10 is decent. Its powerful front McPherson Strut suspension with torsion type roll control device and rear coil spring, gas filled shock absorbers with three-link axle, and isolated trailing arm suspension with isolated trailing arm make driving a breeze, even on busy roads or streets. However, its high speed performance isn’t impressive. The ground clearance is 160 mm, which helps the car improve drivability on the bumpy Indian roads. Boosted with a three-cylinder engine, Alto K10 offers an amazing driving experience with low NVH levels. One can enjoy sharp turns with Alto K10 that comes with minimum turning radius of 4.6m.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Safety
The braking is at par with the contemporaries and progressive with a better bite on the road. The braking system works in line with the regular driving style but not tuned for hard driving. Not much can be expected when it comes to safety features in budget hatchbacks. But you still get optional driver side airbag, central locking, engine immobilizer and child safety lock.
